We’ll set up the Instagram feed next. It will to be linked to the Facebook page you just created. Assuming the Customer has requested an Instagram account be set up, the username and password should be in their Onboarding Form submission.
Once you’ve logged in to Instagram via the provided username and password, click More → Settings on the left-hand menu at the bottom of the page.
- Change the profile photo to the same profile image you used on your Facebook Page.
- Next, click Switch to Professional Account. Choose Business, and select the category Community Organization. Click Done.
Note: Switching the account from Personal to Business is very important. Doing so is the only way to ensure content will be scheduled correctly on Instagram.
Linking Facebook to Instagram
Go back to Facebook and click on your profile picture on the top right. Then click the profile picture of the Facebook page you created.
If you don’t see it, choose See all profiles and it should appear.

Once you have done that, click this link and select Connect Account → Connect → Confirm. Log in as the Instagram account you just created. Your Facebook and Instagram pages should now be connected.
That’s all for now. Make a note of your Instagram Username, as we will need it later.
Next we will set up the Twitter feed. Assuming the Customer has requested a Twitter account be set up, the username and password should be in their Onboarding Form submission.
After logging in via the provided username and password, click Profile on the left-hand menu, and then click the Set up profile button.
- Pick a header: You can use the one you used for the Facebook cover photo.
- Describe yourself: In the Onboarding Form, the Customer should have filled out a description of their community. Use the first paragraph for the Page Description (it needs to be short).
- Where do you live: Enter the Community name, or City and State.
That’s all for now. Make a note of your Twitter Username, as we will need it later.
YouTube
Lastly we’ll create the YouTube channel, assuming the Customer has requested one to be set up. You’ll need sign into a Google account to do this. TownSites has a public one you can use for YouTube channels. Visit Logging In for access instructions.
- After logging in, click the profile icon in the upper right, then select Your Channel.
- On the next page, click the Customize Channel button, then click Continue. The Channel Customization page will appear.
- Click the Branding tab. Upload the same Picture and Banner Image you used for Facebook.
That’s all for now. Before moving on, take note of the URL of the channel you created, specifically the ID just after “/channel/” (see example). This is your Channel ID. You will need this later.
The next step is to connect the accounts you have just set up to the TownSite.
